Great hotel..just not real crazy about the "welcoming committee"

This was our first trip to the Highlands/Cashiers area. Without knowing much about local accommodations, we were sort of flying blind. I had originally looked at the Old Edwards Inn. Not wanting to pay those type of rates, I settled on 200 Main since it was in the same group. We arrived around 7 p.m. and I was warmly greeted by the receptionist at the front desk. The check in process was quick and easy. After driving up to our building, we found our room to be larger than anticipated. The room had some added features we weren't expecting as well like the separate sink/vanity area, spacious shower, balcony, and the fireplace. We didn't utilize the fireplace but could see where it would add a nice touch in the fall or winter. Overall, it was a very nice room but the normal wear and tear of a hotel room is starting to show. Unfortunately though, there was an uninvited guest in our room. A giant beetle on the bed sheet "welcoming" us to the hotel. My wife is horrified of bugs so this didn't go over well as you can imagine. She wasn't able to rest well because of it. She basically slept with one eye open on the lookout for any of his friends who might be in the room too. If you have mobility issues, I could see where the location of this hotel wouldn't be ideal. It's basically at the end of Main Street and you would need to walk a good distance to cover down town. A friend told me that the town basically shuts down at 8 p.m. and he wasn't kidding. We had to search to find a restaurant still open. There is a bakery/restaurant for breakfast and lunch directly across the street though. Keep this in mind since the hotel doesn't serve breakfast. Also if you plan on sleeping in, maybe you could ask for a room in a building further away from main street (judging by the property map, it looks like that'd be building 5.). Being so close to the street, you do get a good bit of noise when the inevitable motorcycle or loud vehicle pass by. All in all, it was a nice place and I probably would stay again. It just seems to be a tad bit over hyped as a part of the "Old Edwards" family. If this truly is a luxury destination, I would expect a little more

always great

We recently stayed here for our 3rd visit in the past 3 years. We are always pleased with this hotel and highly recommend staying here especially for those shorter stays when you can't get a house rental (many of which require at least a 3 night stay). As usual, we stayd in a king balcony room, and were thankful this time we were on the ground floor and didn't have to go up steps with all our stuff. Fortunately, we realized the balcony was still off the ground and felt like a "balcony". The beds and linens are wonderful and we always get such good sleep here. The amenities and look of everything is "high end" for a hotel at this price point, in a place like Highlands. We especially love the property which is full of gorgeous flowering plants and lush trees. The mineral pool is slighly heated and so relaxing and private (thick plantings of lush bushes/trees around it) with cornhole game nearby on the grass. They've added hammocks to the property (which I didn't try out). It's out of the hustle and bustle but very close to all the shops (maybe a short block from where the main shops begin, on the Franklin side of Highlands). The rooms have a nice refrigerator but no microwave. One evening, we usually get a pizza from Mountain Fresh and eat on the lovely terrace by the waterfall and fire pit (yes, a fire pit in August, it is that cool in Highlands). I do wish they had some kind of small continental breakfast; they do have a lovely room for such a breakfast but they do not offer anything but coffee and fruit. My husband the early riser just goes to Mountain Fresh grocery for Breakfast, and me the sleepy head whose body is on central time gets something at Mtn Fresh the night before and saves for my breakfast the next day on our lovely little balcony. Recognize this hotel for what it is, not what is isn't, and you will be very pleased

Exceeds Expectations!

A warm welcome awaits! Our first visit to 200 Main was perfect! The Reception Desk was so helpful upon arrival. Special kudos to Holly who was especially helpful in arranging a change of rooms - to one which could be accessed without stairs! She showed us several available rooms to find one more suitable, way beyond normal expectations. All of the Edwards properties do a first class job in making sure that all who come are made welcome and accommodated in every way. We can't wait to return

Great trip!

If you want to go and stay in Highlands stay at 200 Main...it is a great location, great staff, with a little bit of luxury! This is my second time here and love the place! Best rooms are the top rooms...only 2 levels and if there in summer you don't need the fireplace ( but in the winter it's lovely). Whilst there a must is Old Edwards for dinner in the main restaurant or just do afternoon wine/beer and nibbles in the outside eating area. All staff for me have 5* and the little bit of luxury at 200 main is having Molton Brown toiletries...just shows the class of the place! Well done 200 Main😀

Perfect Getaway

We ended up at 200 Main because Old Edwards was booked for the dates we wanted. For half the price of Old Edwards, we hand an amazing stay! The rooms are basic, but clean and perfect for our weekend getaway. The only downside was that there is no restaurant on site - but you can walk everywhere from this hotel. There is also a wine shop next door where you can purchase wine to enjoy back at the hotel terrace. I'd still like to go back and check out Old Edwards, but 200 Main did not disappoint! Very happy with our visit
